Lithuania’s PST to build new plant for Baltic Fish Export

Panevėžio Statybos Trestas (PST), one of the leading building companies in Lithuania, has signed a 26-million-litas (EUR 7.5 m) deal with Baltic Fish Export, a company of Vičiūnai group, on the construction of a new plant in Kaunas.

The contract was signed earlier this week, PST CEO Dalius Gesevičius told BNS.

“26 million litas is the value of works that will be carried out by Panevėžio Statybos Trestas,” he said.

A new plant of Vičiūnai food group is expected to be built by February 2013. The facility would process 14,500 tons of fresh and frozen fish per year, the company said in a health impact assessment (HIA) report.

The media reported earlier that Vičiūnai would be a fish processing facility in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-largest city. In March the group opened another fish processing and fish product plant, Baltic Food Partners, which ate up the investments of 30 million litas.

Baltic Fish Export will be led by Tomas Bagdonavičius, business development director at Vičiūnai group. He told BNS that the company would not disclose more detailed information about the future facility for the meantime.
