This will be the first visit by an IMF chief to Lithuania since Michel Camdessus' visit 16 years ago, in 1997, and the first visit by a top ECB executive.

On Wednesday, Lagarde is to meet with President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, and Vitas Vasiliauskas, governor of the Bank of Lithuania. Asmussen is to meet with Vasiliauskas and other members of the central bank's board to discuss the economic situation in the euro area, which is one of Lithuania's largest export markets, and the country's preparation to join the monetary union in 2015.

On Thursday, the IMF chief and the ECB official are to take part in a round table discussion on European Economic Integration: Stock Taking of Challenges and Opportunities organized at Vilnius University by the Bank of Lithuania jointly with its partners.
