Lithuanian president going to EU meeting on Ukraine

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite is going to Brussels on Thursday to attend an extraordinary meeting of the European Council where EU leaders will discuss aid to Ukraine and possible sanctions against Russia in response to the Crimean occupation.

Ukraine 's new Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk will also attend the meeting.

Ahead of the meeting, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso announced plans to provide EUR 11 billion to Ukrainer over the next couple of years.

On the eve of the summit, Grybauskaite said that Russia's military intervention into the Ukrainian territory is a threat to Europe's stability and security but, she noted, it is too soon to talk about sanctions against Russia.
