London court to complete hearing extradition case of former Snoras bank owners in November

A UK court should complete hearing of an extradition case against Vladimir Antonov and Raimondas Baranauskas, former owners of Lithuania's bankrupt bank Snoras, in late November.

The hearing was planned to be completed on November 20, spokeswoman for the Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, told BNS.

“More dates have been added, the final date at the moment is 20th November. It requires more time, so there are more days that are going into hearing,” she said adding that a specific date should be set for the announcement of the court’s decision.

Tomas Krusna, deputy chief prosecutor of the Criminal Prosecution Department at the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office, told BNS earlier on Friday that according to the information available to him, the completion of the hearing was planned for October 25.

The Westminster Magistrates' Court in London opened the hearing on September 26. The reports then said that the hearing would last twelve days.

Lithuanian prosecutors have issued a European arrest warrant for Antonov and Baranauskas, who are suspected of misappropriating about 1.7 billion litas (EUR 493m) worth of Snoras' assets.

The prosecutors have also imposed restrictions on the suspects' ownership rights to 805 million litas worth of assets.

Both men currently live in the United Kingdom and are fighting against their extradition to Lithuania.

The Lithuanian government nationalized Snoras on November 16, 2011. A court opened bankruptcy proceedings against the bank on December 7 of that year.
