Debts of Lithuanian municipalities swell by over 94 million euros since 2011

The burden of financial commitments of Lithuanian city and district municipalities has expanded by more than 325 million litas (EUR 94m) over the past year.

As of 1 April, municipalities owed a total of 1.58 billion litas to various financial institutions in addition to 445 million litas in debts to economic entities, the Lietuvos Žinios daily reports.

The highest debt is ridden by Vilnius city municipality, owing nearly 484 million litas to financial institutions and another 316 million litas to economic entities.

Debts of Kaunas city municipality stand at about 228 million litas and Klaipėda city municipality at over 95 million litas.
