Every third Lithuanian shopper can be swayed by awarded brands

A poll has found that one out of three Lithuanian shoppers take notice of awards displayed on the label of a product when buying their groceries and to media reports about a recognition given to a brand, the business daily Verslo Žinios reports.

"An award has to be known and respected by the public. The awarding criteria must be clear and the organizers must have an impeccable reputation. Only such awards can add motivation to buy a product. Unfortunately, I know few awards in Lithuania which meet all those criteria," said Audrius Savickas, an independent marketing consultant.

According to the poll by TNS LT, 32 percent of 506 Lithuanian residents aged 17 to 74 years pay attention to awards shown on the packaging of a product when doing their everyday shopping and 28 percent pay attention to media reports about awards. People with higher income tend to pay more attention to news about recognition of a brand or a product.
