Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator Litgrid is seeking advisers on the designing and construction of a power interconnection with Poland.

The winning bidder will advise the company in designing, building, and testing a 500-megawatt (MW) back-to-back station converter and a 400-kilovolt switchyard in Alytus, southern Lithuania, and to liaise with the project contractor, Sweden's ABB, according to draft technical specifications for the planned tender.

Litgrid says that it will need advisory services in the period between January 10, 2014, and the end of 2015, when ABB is expected to complete the project.

The LitPol Link interconnection is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2015 with a capacity of 500 MW, to be raised to 1,000 MW in 2018-2020.
