Lithuania suspends pig imports from Ukraine due to African swine fever outbreak

Lithuania has suspended the imports of pigs, pig products, and fodder from Ukraine due to an outbreak of African swine fever in the country.

The restrictions will apply until the origin of the virus is discovered, the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) says in a press release.

The outbreak of African swine fever – the first ever in Ukraine - was registered in Ukraine’s Zaporozhye region.

The outbreak occurred in one village of the Zaporozhye region in the south-east of Ukraine. All of 198 pigs in the village have been slaughtered.
