In December alone, the airport handled 8,300 passengers, down 8 percent year-on-year, the airport said on its website.
Airlines served 3,000 flights to and from Palanga last year, up 3 percent from 2011. Cargo handling soared by 4.2 times, to 104 tons.
Several airlines currently operate flights from Palanga, including the Scandinavian airline SAS (to Copenhagen), Norway’s Norwegian Air Shuttle (to Oslo), and Latvia’s Airbaltic (to Riga).
In 2011, passenger traffic through the airport rose by 8 percent, to 110,000, from 102,500 in 2010.
