Transport Ministry to consider putting Lithuania's airports under joint management

Lithuania’s airports should not compete among themselves, says Transport Minister Rimantas Sinkevičius, adding that the authorities are considering a possibility to establish a single airport management company.

“I think that we should consider a possibility of establishing a joint airport company so as to prevent the airports from applying different pricing, luring customers from one another... Hence there are ideas to introduce joint management so as to ensure order and good performance,” he said in an interview to Verslo Žinios business daily.

The targets established by Lietuvos Paštas (Lithuanian Post) were sound and the authorities did not intend to privatize the postal company, he said.

“We are not speaking about the sale today since in that case we would have to speak about privatization. Some Pay Post outlets have already been launched and the revenues of some of them exceed the costs already. According to the plans, the range of services will be expanded through other activities linked with banking. Some of the banks may not be happy about that. Well, we will see. The goal is right. I am positive about the outlook for Lietuvos Paštas’ operations,” the minister said.
