Arrangements being made for financial support for Lithuanian schools in Punsk

Representatives of Lithuania's Ministry of Education and Science are currently visiting Poland's Punsk Gmina and are making arrangements for financial support to preserve local Lithuanian schools, Minister of Education and Science Dainius Pavakis said on Wednesday.

„We have found money to support the Punsk schools,“ the minister told journalists.

In his words, the ministry's chancellor is visiting Punks and making legal and technical arrangements for sending 400,000 litas (around EUR 116,000).

Polish Lithuanians say they will be forced to close three Lithuanian schools in Navinykai, Pristavonys and Vidugiriai due to lack of funds.

Lithuania once allocated 350,000 litas for Lithuanian schools in Poland in 2011.
