Russian Culture Attaché to Lithuania Nikolai Burov hopes that the Russian cultural festival Christmas Evenings, scheduled to take place in Vilnius in the coming months, will be attended by all residents, not just ethnic Russians.

The programme includes 12 events, with the first one scheduled for the end of November. More items may still be added to the programme.

"Classic arts and interests of viewers were our starting point. It is important to note that organizing a festival was not a goal in itself but an aim to do everything to bring Lithuanian viewers as close as possible to the Russian culture," Burov told a news conference on Thursday.

The festival will feature performances by prominent classical music performers from Russia, like pianist Nikolai Luganski. Concerts are also planned by Moscow State Academic Symphonic Orchestra and Igor Moiseyev Folk Dance Company.

A number of exhibitions is also in the programme.

The festival is sponsored by the Russian Embassy in Vilnius and the Russian Culture Ministry.
