The street crossing several villages was named after Tuwim last April. The government's representative in Vilnius region turned to court.

A first0instance court rejected the complaint but the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania ruled on 13 August that a person's merits to the State of Lithuania, its history, science, arts, culture, politics, and other areas should be taken into account while naming a street after the person.

The court said Vilnius District authorities failed to present evidence on Tuwim's merits.

Tuwim lived between 1894 and 1953 and is a luminary of the Polish literature. His mother was originally from Lithuania, but the poet himself was born in Lodz. He emigrated to the West for a short period of time. He died and was buried in Poland. There's no other reference to Lithuania in his biography or works.
