‘Darnu Group’ support foundation announces a design competition: open-air mobile workplaces to emerge in Vilnius and Nida

The ‘Support Foundation for Sustainable Initiatives', established by ‘Darnu Group’, one of the largest real estate development companies in Lithuania, is launching the ‘NeBiuras’ project, which aims to create mobile and innovative open-air workplaces for urban residents in Vilnius and Nida.

The fund is launching a design competition and inviting developers, architects, and designers to come up with ideas for what workplaces should look like in the fresh air.

‘Now more than ever, we value health and the opportunity to spend time in open spaces. Our goal is to encourage people to discover not only leisure but also work in those urban spaces that inspire creativity and help them come up with new ideas. Therefore, we invite designers and creators of small architecture to join our project ‘NeBiuras’, and create modern, mobile workplace design ideas that would be implemented and would not only adorn cities, but also provide quality conditions for creating and working outdoors’, says Akvilė Liaudanskienė, director of the ‘Support Foundation for Sustainable Initiatives’.

The newly created workplaces will be for both individual and team work. To apply for the competition, entrants, which may include both natural and legal persons, must prepare and submit a design project by April 12, consisting of proposals for open mobile workplaces to be established outside.

‘We divide the competition into two parts – two separate projects that are to be brought to life in Vilnius and Nida. Therefore, the participants can either submit an application to only one part of the competition or participate in both, in which case they should submit two different ideas’, says Akvilė Liaudanskienė, Director of the ‘Support Foundation for Sustainable Initiatives’.

The works of the entrants will be evaluated and the best ideas will be selected by a competent commission consisting of specialists from the Architecture Department of Vilnius and Neringa municipalities, landscape architects, design professionals, and representatives of ‘Darnu Group’ and ‘Support Foundation for Sustainable Initiatives’. The winners of the competition will be announced by April 21.

‘We plan to establish the workplaces as designed by the winners of the competition in green areas, squares and parks located in the central parts of the cities or on the coast near the water. We want “NeBiuras” to become an attraction not only for those looking for either an alternative office for the summer or a convenient workplace in the centre, but also for those wanting to also enjoy a quiet corner surrounded by nature while working’, says Akvilė Liaudanskienė.

Among the requirements for participants is to ensure the technical characteristics of the workplaces: mobile offices must be of high quality, durable, ergonomic, easy to transport and have a rain cover. Moisture, cold and corrosion-resistant materials must be used in the installation of workplaces, and sustainable power generation solutions should be considered in each individual office.

The winners of the first and second places in the competition will be awarded cash prizes.

The submission of applications for the competition takes place from March 19 to April 12.
