Lithuanian Foreign Minister hopes EU and Ukraine will sign association pact in Vilnius in November

Congratulating Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Leonid Kozhara on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Ukraine's independence, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius expressed hope that both Ukraine and the European Union will be ready to sign an association agreement by the start of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in late November.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement would be so far the most ambitious agreement between the EU and a third country.

Linkevičius wished Ukraine, which marked the independence anniversary last weekend, to continue strengthening the state, consolidating European values as well as linking the country's future with Europe.

The Lithuanian foreign minister also invited Ukraine to make use of Lithuania's European integration experience.

Vilnius will host the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29 under the Lithuanian EU presidency. The Eastern Partnership program is aimed at bringing six post-Soviet countries - Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova - closer to the EU.
