Lithuania scored 9 points, as did Latvia. Meanwhile, Estonia scored 17 points, the European Commission (EC) said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the screening report, performance in the management of municipal waste was worst in Greece (3 pts) and Bulgaria (8 pts). Among best performers were Austria (39 pts), the Netherlands (39 pts), Denmark (37 pts), and Germany (36 pts).

Lithuania encountered problems in almost all waste management areas, the report shows. However, the country has no infringements concerning non-compliance with the EU waste legislation.

The screening report will be used by the Commission to prepare roadmaps for the ten worst performing Member States. These will be discussed with national authorities at bilateral seminars this fall, starting in Prague on 19 September.
