A group of barefoot officers had planned to perform the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, from Giuseppe Verdi's opera Nabucco, during an informal meeting of EU interior ministers in Vilnius on July 19.
Officers say the protests was cancelled due to ongoing talks with the government.
"Following lengthy discussions, we decided to cancel the protest. It's just that intensive negotiations with the government are taking place and it would be incorrect to held protests during them," Vladimir Banel, leader of he National Association of Officers' Trade Unions, said.
Officers demand to increase funding for the system by 100 million litas (EUR 28.85 million) as of 2014 and to add at least 10-15 million litas this year. They also want funding for the system to go back to the 2008 level in two years.
Officers have held protests since early July, aimed at persuading local authorities to provide additional funding to law enforcement, improve social guarantees for officers and launch a law enforcement reform.
