According to a statement by the State Border Guard Service, Lithuanian border guards were checking passenger documents on a Kaliningrad-Tallinn coach on Wednesday and identified that passport presented by a Mali citizen contained a Schengen visa allegedly issued by France, which was fake. The woman was removed from the bus. Border guards wanted to send her back to Russia but she asked for political asylum in Lithuania.

Lithuanian officers initiated necessary procedures and informed the Division on Asylum Affairs of the Migration Department.

The woman was put into custody after a pre-trial investigation was launched regarding forged documents.
