Traffic accidents claimed two lives in Lithuania over Christmas week

Two people were killed on Lithuanian roads over the five-day holiday weekend, while 57 were left injured, the police said.

According to the press release, the weekend of 22-23 December was among the safest in 2012. The police had to deal with drunk drivers, though.

According to preliminary data, drunk drivers were involved in eight traffic accidents on 21-27 December. One person died during the crashes, nine more incurred injuries.

By Friday, 303 people, including 14 minors, were killed in traffic accidents this year, up by nine deaths year-on-year.

Among the casualties are 108 drivers, 103 pedestrians, 50 passengers, 31 cyclists, and six moped drivers - 227 of them males and 76 females.
