Hungary commends Lithuania for solidarity following "unfounded accusations" by EU

Hungary has thanked Lithuania for solidarity after Budapest faced "unfounded accusations" from foreign bodies regarding the country's new laws. Hungary plans to express its gratitude in a parliamentary resolution to be debated by the National Assembly later on Monday.

"The parliamentary resolution expresses gratitude to Lithuania and Poland for showing this solidarity against unfounded accusations questioning Hungarian democracy and, in a way, questioning Hungarians' right to self-determination," Hungarian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zsolt Nemeth told BNS on Monday.

The diplomat said debates on the resolution are scheduled to take place later on Monday, and the vote on the document will he held next week.

"We have a strong majority behind the resolution," Nemeth told BNS by phone from Budapest.
