Lithuanian General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras takes over management of Baltic Defense College

Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras of the Lithuanian army will take over the management of the Tartu-based Baltic Defense College, replacing Brigadier General Meelis Kiili as the College's commandant, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense has announced.

A change of command ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday. It will also be attended by Major General Almantas Leika, commander of Land Forces of the Lithuanian Army, and Colonel Eugenijus Vosylius, commandant of the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania.

Before his appointment, Vaikšnoras, 51, served as an adviser at the Ministry of National Defense. Before that, he was Lithuania's military representative to NATO and the European Union, and was the dean of NATO Military Committee in 2010-2011.

The Baltic Defense College is a multi-lateral co-operative military college which educates officers from the three Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) as well as from NATO, EU States, and other European countries like Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, and Romania.
