According to the President's Office, the presidents of the Baltic states and the United States will discuss regional military, energy and cyber security issues. Special attention will be paid to aspects of economic cooperation and negotiations with the European Union for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Discussions will also include cooperation within NATO.
The White House said that President Obama looks forward to welcoming the Baltic presidents.
"This joint meeting will highlight the significant transformations the Baltic states have undergone since restoring their independence two decades ago," the US Embassy in Vilnius said in a statement.
"Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia are valued NATO allies, and the four leaders will discuss a broad range of mutual interests, including regional cooperation on shared challenges, energy security, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations, defense, and cyber cooperation. The Presidents will also discuss joint efforts to advance human rights and democratic values, including development assistance for emerging democracies around the world," the embassy said.
"Lithuania has consistently demonstrated leadership in working with the U.S. on a deep and broad agenda, both regionally and globally. This is an opportunity to address new challenges and to strengthen regional ties. The Embassy looks forward to the results of this meeting and to deepening our relationship with our Lithuanian partners,” US Ambassador to Lithuania Deborah McCarthy was quoted as saying in the statement.
According to Grybauskaitė, "the United States understands the challenges faced by Lithuania and the Baltic countries and cooperation with the US over the past few years has been more intense than ever before.
"America is a major partner which backed the extension of the NATO air policing mission in the Baltics for an indefinite period, and this year will see the largest military exercise to date conducted in the region under the Alliance's contingency plans," the Lithuanian president said.
The president noted that negotiations on the transatlantic trade agreement are among key priorities on the Lithuanian presidency agenda. Lithuania is particularly interested in facilitating shale gas exports from the US.
It will be President Grybauskaitė's first visit to the White House.
This year marks 15 years since the signing of the US-Baltic Charter of Partnership.
