"Norway helps Lithuania ensure diversified electricity and gas supplies and competitive energy prices. Norwegian company Hoegh LNG is constructing a special vessel that will carry gas to Klaipėda liquefied natural gas terminal. A power interconnection with Sweden, when built, will markedly step up imports of Norwegian electricity - one of the world's cheapest - to Lithuania," the president said following a meeting with visiting Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, according to the President's Office.
On launching the NordBalt power bridge in 2015, Norwegian electricity is likely to account for about 36 percent of energy imported to Lithuania via this link.
According to the president, since Norway is one of the world's biggest liquefied natural gas suppliers, Lithuania is also interested in the opportunity to import Norwegian gas to the liquefied natural gas terminal to be launched in 2014 in the Lithuanian western port of Klaipėda.
Norway is Lithuania's fifth largest foreign investor - direct investments from Norway to our country amount to about 2.46 billion litas.
