Wouter Hamel - Zhavaronki (live recording)

2017-04-21 11:18
Hamel's third album 'Lohengrin' was largely written on this farm in the quiet countryside of the Netherlands. Hamel returned to the place where 'Lohengrin' originated to record live acoustic versions of three songs. Wouter about 'Zhavaronki' and the reason he wrote this song: "Me and my friend Marline were asked to sing in a jazz club in Moscow more than a decade ago. We were then invited to celebrate New Year's Eve in the countryside near to Moscow - after two weeks of shows with the Russian big band. We took a train to Zhavaronki and celebrated New Year's Eve in a notoriously Russian fashion. A gruesome fantasy came to me while we walked through snowy deserted fields the next morning and now, after all these years, it was time to write about this blood red fantasy." www.hamelmusic.com producer: Dennis Cornelisse, director/edit Robert-Jan Glas and Kim Visser, DOP: Daan Nieuwenhuijs, audio recording: Donne Roos & Frans Wajon, mixed by Frans Wajon
