Woman Falls Through Sidewalk Collapse, Down Seven Feet on the Upper East Side New York

A woman is hospitalized with a broken arm after falling through a sidewalk on Manhattan's Upper East Side Friday night. Related Content More: Follow us @EyewitnessNYC More: Get Alerts Rescue workers say the sidewalk gave way while she was trying to get out of the rain. Inspectors found a four foot by six foot slab of concrete, which was part of the sidewalk, had collapsed into a vault cellar in front of the building. Further investigation revealed the steel doors leading to the vault were defective and a stair case leading to the first floor commercial space was loose. EMS, Fire Department and Emergency Service Units all responded to the scene. The woman had to be extricated from the hole. On Saturday, a steel cover was place over the collapsed piece of sidewalk
