The remnants of the break cross in dribs and drabs. Hesjedal leads Rolland over about 2:20 down, then the other GC favourites come. Uran has cracked and loses a bit of time - even a handful of seconds to Evans, who sprints clear on the final straight.

Enrico Battaglin, who won a stage last year, returned in the last kilometre to take a quite splendid win. Pantano didn't have the kick, Cataldo looked to have it in the bag, but Battaglin had too much power in the end. Top sprint - and two in two for Bardiani now.
