Club Atlético de Madrid twice came from behind to inflict a 4-3 defeat on leaders FC Barcelona and give their in-form city rivals, Real Madrid CF, renewed hope of overhauling Josep Guardiola's team at the summit.
Reduced lead
Three weeks ago, a free-scoring Barça enjoyed a 12-point lead over Madrid, but two losses in three matches, coupled with a ten-game run of victories for Los Merengues, has whittled the Catalan club's advantage down to four points. Having lost to RCD Espanyol last week, Barcelona nonetheless looked to be returning to winning ways when Thierry Henry (19) and Lionel Messi (30) put them two goals ahead at the Vicente Calderón.
Agüero winner
Diego Forlán and Sergio Agüero then helped level the scores eleven minutes into the second half, but the hosts fell behind again on 74 minutes when Henry turned in a square ball from Eidur Gudjohnsen. Despite that blow, Atlético pursuing a place in the top four kept pushing and equalised for a second time through Forlán's penalty, before snatching the unlikeliest of wins a minute from time when Agüero played a one-two with Maniche and slotted past Víctor Valdés.
