Incredible Slow Motion Lightning Strike! (1 sec. = 3 min!)

2017-04-21 11:18
Incredible footage of a lightning strike slowed down. One strike of lightning (1 second) turns into 3 minutes of footage. See what few people ever see! Lightning physicist Vladislav Mazur and meteorologist Tom Warner watch a video of a lightning strike that has been slowed down so 1 second of footage is played back as 6 minutes of film. Vlad Mazur, a scientist with the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, Okla., was the first to study storms using a 1,000-image-per-second camera in the early 1990s. Warner says that it has been only in the past three or four years that technology has enabled him and other scientists to use high-speed video to study lightning, when "the speed and therefore the resolution increased significantly to allow for meaningful resolutions to be captured at speeds above 5,000 images per second."
