Evansville Police arrest two people on several charges, including child neglect, after the couple allegedly allowed a 12-month-old baby to play with a .40 caliber handgun. Police arrest Michael Barnes, 19, Thursday night after police say he agreed to meet with someone to sell a handgun. According to police, Barnes had an active warrant for Armed Robbery. When Barnes arrived to at the meeting, across from Delaware Elementary School, he was instead met by an undercover officer. Police say Barnes tried to run, but was caught by a Vanderburgh County K-9 Unit. Police found the gun Barnes had allegedly agreed to sell. He was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement with a Weapon, Carrying a Handgun without a Permit, and Carrying a Handgun without a Permit within 500 Feet of a School. This is where the second investigation was launched. Evansville Police say detectives with the ATF and EPD Task Force examined Barnes' cell phone for evidence related to the attempted sale of the gun. Investigators found two videos on the phone that showed a 12-month-old baby playing with a handgun that appears to be the same one that was recovered from Barnes during his arrest. Police say Barnes can be heard telling the child to say "pow" on multiple occasions while the child played with the gun. The video also shows the child placing the muzzle of the gun in her mouth. Investigators determined the child's mother, Toni Wilson, 22, was present when the video was made. Police said Wilson had been with Barnes during his arrest... But was released at the scene. Police say Wilson denied knowing anything about Barnes having a gun at that time. When Police later confronted about the video, Wilson told police it was a pellet gun. Wilson was arrested on charges of Child Neglect, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, and Allowing a Child to Possess a Firearm. Barnes is also facing those charges in addition to his original charges from his Thursday night arrest. The 12-month-old and two 1 month old twins were placed into emergency care. Barnes is not the father of the 12 month old, but is the father of the twins.
