The sand art story you are about to see is based on a small book called ‘Through the Eyes of a Child’. The book contains drawings made by a small girl Benita Plezere. She was 11 years old when on 25 March 1949 she together with her family was deported from their home in Zemgale to a ‘special settlement’ beyond the Ural Mountains. Benita drew her impressions on the way to exile and sent them to her godmother in Latvia.
