Standing beside the members of U2, Mayor Michael Bloomberg today temporarily named a portion of Manhattan's West 53rd Street "U2 Way."
Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn presented the band's four members with street signs bearing the name.
This comes as the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame group releases a new album, "No Line on the Horizon."
The Irish band is currently playing a week-long gig on "The Late Show with David Letterman."
"U2 has shown its incredible love for New York. Throughout their careers they have also promoted a message of peace, tolerance and unity, and that's something we understand very well here in New York," said the mayor.
"It's a truly, truly special day to be in New York City, a place where everybody comes," said U2 lead singer Bono. "New York City's the place where everybody comes to feel themselves and we totally feel at home today."
Bono complimented of the mayor for his philanthropic work, helping to cure diseases around the world.
The street will bear the "U2 Way" name through Friday.
