Majority of Lithuanians feel no moral qualms about smuggling

Most people of Lithuania say they justify the contraband of cigarettes, alcohol, and fuel a well as their illegal consumption, and a third said they have bought smuggled goods, a survey for the Lithuanian Free Market Institute shows.

62 percent of those surveyed said they thought smuggling cigarettes, alcohol, fuel and illegal consumption was acceptable, and 31 percent said it was not.

One in three respondents admitted they had bought contraband cigarettes or fuel last year – 35 and 29 percent respectively, and 16 percent bought alcohol.

1,004 people aged 18-75 were surveyed by Spinter Tyrimai in January.
