Those willing to renovate private houses have to prove that their house will become more energy efficient through the insulation of walls or replacement of window frames. The owners may apply for support if the energy costs of their houses will be driven down by 20 percent through renovation.
The authorities have earmarked 1.8 million litas (EUR 0.52m) for the renovation of one- or two-apartment houses built before 1993. Half of this amount is planned to be used for actual renovation and the other half for compensations to the households that intend to install residential wind or solar power installations, or heat pumps.
In line with the conditions the owners of the houses under renovation will see up to 30 percent of their renovation costs covered.
Two-thirds, or 66 percent, of Lithuania’s residents live in apartment blocks and the remaining in private houses.
