„I think there is a very good potential for the Baltic states and for the Baltic region as such to be the fastest-growing region in the whole of Europe, not just for two or three years, but for at least a decade, or several decades,“ he said at a joint conference with his Lithuanian and Estonian counterparts.

„We are ahead of the (economic growth) cycle,“ he said, adding that Latvia meets the Maastricht criteria by a wide margin.

„There is growing support - – slowly but it is growing,“ Vilks said.

The Baltic finance ministers discussed euro adoption and Lithuania's upcoming EU presidency in Vilnius on Thursday.
