“A plan of measures pertaining to the LNG terminal’s project, which is one of the most important projects for Lithuania, was presented today. We also discussed the process of works and the outlook. The terms of works raise the biggest concern. If we want to have the terminal in place by 2015, the schedule of works shall be particularly stringent and the work itself shall be focused and intensive,” a press release from the prime minister’s press service quoted Butkevičius as saying.
All institutions involved in the project were working successfully and had been keeping up with the schedule so far, Butkevičius said.
“The process of the facility’s construction shall be monitored and supervised continuously. For this purpose, a task group comprising the representatives of all institutions concerned shall be restored. The ministers will also have to exchange information at least once a month so that we can address the problems related to the terminal’s construction, if there were to emerge any, as fast and effectively as possible,” he added.
Lithuania expects to build the terminal in Klaipėda by the end of 2014 to obtain a cheaper alternative to Gazprom-supplied Russian gas, which is widely used for heating in the country.
