Tele2 spends too much money on advertising in Lithuania’s media, the mobile operator’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer Anders Olsson has admitted.

“We think that we spend too much money on advertising in Lithuania’s media. Our goal is to reduce the budget by 10-15 percent and use the savings for the improvement of communication quality in the country and maintenance of low prices,” Olsson told the Verslo Žinios business daily. According to him, the sum allocated by Tele2 for advertising in Lithuania’s media is larger than the respective amount in Latvia or Estonia.

Lithuania’s major telecommunications operators spent 120 million litas (EUR 34.78m, not including discounts) on media advertising between January and August, data from TNS LT has shown. The largest amount was invested by Tele2.

Tele2 increased its media advertising budget by 11.8 percent (not including discounts) compared with the first eight months of 2011, the market research company said.

Omnitel reduced its media advertising costs by 24 percent in January through August, year-on-year. The respective costs of Bite Lietuva increased by 33.5 percent.
