After a spectacular performance by Lithuanian swimmer Rūta Meilutytė in the 100 meter breathstroke finals, President Dalia Grybauskaitė decided to extend her visit in London for another day to observe Meilutytė's swim in the finals of the London 2012 Olympics.

"The president extended her stay in the Summer Olympic Games. She decided to support our youngest Olympic contestant, Rūta Meilutytė," presidential adviser Živilė Didžgalvienė told BNS on Monday.

Grybauskaitė will be back in Vilnius on Tuesday. Her initial plan was to be in London for three days from Friday to Sunday.

Meilutytė will swim in the breathstroke finals on Monday evening. On Sunday night, she covered 100 meters in 1 minute and 5.21 seconds, improving the European record that belonged to Russian swimmer Yulia Yevimova since April 2009 by 0.59 seconds. She did not only win the second semi-finals but swam faster than all 15 contestants.
