A thousand more job vacancies at the end of 2011 than a year before

The number of registered job vacancies for salaried employees in Lithuania totaled 7,100 at the end of December, a rise of 16.4 percent, or 1,000 vacancies, from 6,100 vacancies at the end of 2010, Statistics Lithuania said on Friday.

Quarter-on-quarter, the number of job vacancies shrank by 42 percent, or 5,200 vacancies, in the fourth quarter, it said.

In the fourth quarter, compared with the previous quarter, the numbers of vacancies declined in all economic sectors, mostly in trade (by 1,100), construction (1,000), industry (600), transport and warehousing (600).

As of end-December, numbers of vacancies were highest in industry (1,900, 26.9 percent of the total), transport and warehousing (1,000, or 14 percent), public administration and defense, and mandatory social insurance (900, 13.3 pct).

The job vacancy rate in the country made up 0.6 percent at the end of 2011, down 0.5 percentage points from the end of September and unchanged from the end of 2010.

The job vacancy rates ranged from 1.2 percent in public administration and defense, and mandatory social insurance, as well as in financial and insurance activities, to 0.2 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishery, real estate operations and education.
