Absurdity: Lithuanian power plants idle, we buy electrical power from Latvia, which produces power from LNG terminal gas

Latvia purchases gas from Lithuania’s LNG terminal, avoids taxes, produces electricity and sells this to Lithuania, while our country’s power plants stand idle. This was the situation observed by the Commission for Energy and Sustainable Development, which had invited specialists. They concluded – Lithuanian electrical power is too expensive, thus the Elektrėnai bloc, which cost hundreds of millions and other power plants remain idle. Last year, 80% of electricity consumption was imported from abroad.
