Baltic countries to pursue closer cooperation in railway development

Transport Ministry urges the Cabinet to endorse an agreement on cooperation in railway transport sector, which governments of Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia signed in Tallinn on 7 December.

The agreement would facilitate the development of rail transportation between three Baltic countries, provide a framework for cooperation among the authorities, carriers and public rail infrastructure managers, would support public-private initiatives and promote business cooperation, the ministry said in a draft government decision.

The parties should establish a joint committee and appoint their representatives thereto so as to implement the deal, the draft says.
