Dainius Aksinavičius, Callcredit Operations' director for Lithuania, said that the country had been chosen due to its good IT professionals.
The new IT center at Kaunas' Žalgiris Arena, which now employs 50 people, expects to create around 200 new jobs for IT professionals.
"We plan that we will employ a total of 200 people by the end of 2013," Aksinavičius told BNS.
The director said that Callcredit had chosen to set up its IT center in Lithuania due to its good communications infrastructure and qualified professionals.
"We chose Kaunas due to lower competition, too. All international companies are moving to Vilnius. So, if I am not mistaken, we will be the largest international company in Kaunas," he said.
Callcredit will not provide any direct services to customers in Lithuania or other Baltic countries. Its Kaunas unit will help maintain the company's IT infrastructure in the UK. The Lithuanian services center of the UK bank Barclay's operates in a similar fashion.
