Buyers jostle for Žalgiris stadium in Vilnius

Real estate developers Hanner and MG Valda are interested in Vilnius' multi-hundred million litas Žalgiris stadium, previously owned by the bankrupt Ūkio Bankas, and adjacent land parcels, but complain that they have been unable to obtain detailed information about the property complex and suspect that Šiaulių Bankas' interests could be behind this, the business daily Verslo Žinios reports.

"Hanner is interested in the Žalgiris stadium area project, but, in our opinion, detailed planning solutions are not rational and the ongoing sale process looks quite strange, because we have been unable to get the sales memorandum. The deadline for providing the document has been repeatedly pushed back. That naturally raises questions about the transparency and rationality of the process," Arvydas Avulis, the chairman and CEO of Hanner, told the paper.

MG Valda Director Sigita Survilaitė-Mekionienė said that they had doubts about the sale process itself. "(It's not clear) if the land parcels or the companies that own them will be purchased," she said.

The sellers of the land parcels and Šiaulių Bankas, which has taken over the "good" assets of Ūkio Bankas, reject these allegations, saying that the developers are tarnishing the public opinion of the sale process because they have their own interests.

According to Verslo Žinios, potential buyers of the stadium, with Panevėžio Statybos Trestas being mentioned as one of them, cannot submit their final offers, because Summa Advisers, an investment banking firm that is handling the sale, and Newsec/Re&Solution, a real estate company, have failed to provide potential investors with an information memorandum giving a detailed description and prices of the properties.
