Changes to Baltic stock indexes expected to give boost to trade

Changes to the composition of the Baltic stock indexes is expected to give a boost to the volume of trading and prices of the stocks that are being added to the portfolios in early July, the business daily Verslo Žinios reports.

"The changes to the composition of the indexes will likely have an impact both on stock prices and turnovers," it quoted Agnė Anželienė, a financial broker at Swedbank, as saying.

Apranga will be added to the OMX Baltic 10 index of the ten most liquid Baltic stocks on 2 July, while Panevėžio Statybos Trestas (PST) will be removed from it.

"When the bourse reviewed the composition of the index at the start of this year, shares in Invalda and City Service were added to the OMX Baltic 10 index. Three working days before the review took effect, both the turnover and the price of the stocks rose considerably," she said.

However, the broker added that the general market situation could have am adverse effect on the price and liquidity of Apranga shares.

As a result of the semi-annual review completed on Tuesday, Estonia's Nordecon, Latvia's Valmieras Stikla Skiedra and Lithuania's Vilniaus Baldai will be added to the OMX Baltic Benchmark index, whereas Liepajas Metalurgs and Latvijas Kugnieciba will be removed from the portfolio of 30 stocks.
