The VAE and N M Rothschild & Sons signed the contract on 28 January 2011. The value of the contract is the largest among all deals signed by the VAE so far, according to the data made available in the central public procurement portal.
The representatives of the VAE and the Energy Ministry earlier told BNS that they could not disclose the value of the deal. Last year, when Japan’s Hitachi was chosen as a strategic investor in the new nuclear power plant, a contractual contingent fee of 2 million euros was paid to N M Rothschild & Sons.
The agreement signed with N M Rothschild & Sons-led consortium in June 2009 expired on 31 December 2010. Later the contract was extended for one year as a result of direct negotiations. Some 1.5 million euros were paid to the bank for services by the beginning of 2011.
It has not been announced whether the VAE extended the contract with N M Rothschild & Sons early this year.
Other members of the consortium are the Nordic-Baltic investment bank Evli, the international economic and financial consultancy NERA Economic Consulting and the German technical consultancy Fichtner.
Lithuania plans to build a new nuclear power plant in Visaginas, close to the border with Belarus, by 2020-2022. The government intends to sign a concession agreement with Japan’s Hitachi by July. Final investment decision is expected to be made by the end of March 2015.
