The agreement will be signed by Nord Pool Spot CEO Mikael Lundin and Litgrid CEO Virgilijus Poderys, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator said in a press release.

In April 2010, the Nordic electricity exchange Nord Pool Spot launched operations in Estonia. Earlier it said that it intended to gain a foothold in Lithuania and Latvia in 2012.

Lithuania’s existing local electricity exchange is run by electricity market operator BaltPool. It operates in line with Nord Pool Spot principles.

Nord Pool Spot runs the leading power market in the world with some 350 companies from 20 countries trading in electricity on its platform. The exchange is owned by the Nordic transmission system operators.
