The new Cabinet plans to make decisions on Wednesday, which would slow down the growth in electricity prices.
Depending on estimates pertaining to the generation quota of Lietuvos Elektrinė (Lithuanian Power Plant, or LPP) as provided by Litgrid, Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator, the price of electricity already endorsed by the commission could be lowered by around 1-1.5 Lithuanian centas (0.29-0.43 euro cents).
“I can confirm that if there is enough time to adopt the decisions adjusting, for example, the quotas set for Lietuvos Elektrinė, we would proceed with the decisions, which fall within our remit, immediately so as to have the government’s decision implemented in practice, so as to ensure more favorable results for consumers.” Diana Korsakaitė said in an interview with LRT radio on Monday.
She said earlier that an increase in electricity prices from 2013 might be lowered by 1-1.5 Lithuanian centas per 1 kWh.
The Cabinet intends to lower the generation quota set for Lietuvos Elektrinė for 2013, which would open the way to review the SGEI budget and lower the price of electricity, which had already been established for a period starting from 1 January.
In that case the prices panel would take the required decision on 31 December and the new price would come into effect on 1 January.
In line with the existing decision the price of electricity for Lithuania’s households will increase by nearly 0.06 litas per 1 kWh from January, mostly due to increases in gas prices and in the SGEI cost.
