Energy efficiency certificates will be required when selling or renting both commercial premises and apartments.
“Starting from 9 January 2013, when the amendments to the Construction Law will come into effect, it will no longer be possible to agree that an energy efficiency certificate is not needed. Moreover, the notaries will not be able to validate property transactions, including even an apartment sale or the rent of premises,” Evaldas Klimas, a lawyer with the law firm LAWIN, told the daily.
The requirements set forth in the legislative amendments are expected to give a boost to the certification market since now the prices of this service depend on the complexity of the building. It costs around several hundreds litas to certify an apartment or a single-family house. The tariffs for larger commercial premises range from several cents to nearly 2 litas (EUR 0.58) per square meter.
