“That suspension is temporary – until the agreement is reached. And if no agreement is reached after all, the procedures stipulate that the funds, for example, if the contract were to be terminated, could be used to finance other projects within the framework of Ignalina’s decommissioning program. In this case this suspension may be treated as additional pressure to reach an agreement and implement the project,” Šemeta told reporters after meeting with Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius in Vilnius on Friday.
The donors’ conference decided on Thursday to suspend funding for B1 - the spent nuclear fuel storage facility project, which is being implemented by the German consortium of Russian-owned Nukem and GNS.
