Fall in jobless rate in Lithuania one of biggest across EU in May

A fall in unemployment rate in Lithuania was one of the biggest across the European Union (EU) in May, according to the data published by Eurostat.

The jobless rate in Lithuania fell by 2 percentage points, to 13.7 percent in May, from 15.7 percent in the same month last year.

A larger year-on-year fall was observed in Estonia but this country, same as Latvia, only provides quarterly data.

The jobless rate in Estonia fell by 2.7 percentage points, to 10.9 percent, from 13.6 percent, between the first quarters of 2011 and 2012, and in Latvia, by 1.8 percentage points, to 15.3 percent, from 17.1 percent, between the same periods.

As estimated by Eurostat, 24.868 million men and women in the EU were unemployed in May, making the unemployment rate stand at 10.3 percent.
