FSRU Independence repayment costs to be decreased, but at the cost of future generations

The repayment for the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) Independence will be extended to 2044 because it has been proposed to spread out its payments. Due to this, it is promised that the annual tax burden on residents will be decreased, however will gas be needed in 20 years? 15min discussed this with the was discussed at the Klaipėdos Nafta [Klaipėda Oil] LNG director Arūnas Molis.

Last Wednesday, the state approved 295,5 million euro state guarantees for the purchase of the FSRU and terminal maintenance cost reduction. The legislative project has been presented to Seimas. However, the terminal’s repayment and maintenance cost decreases today are being paid at the expense of future generations because the payment is to be spread out up to 2045.
